WhatsApp is a popular messaging app with over 2 billion downloads globally. So do you know how to transfer WhatsApp from an old phone to a new phone and still use the old phone number? WhatsApp does not support this feature, however we can use iCloud or Google Drive to transfer WhatsApp to another phone. The following article will share how to transfer WhatsApp to a new phone with the same number.
Method 1 of 2: transfer WhatsApp to a new phone with the same number on Android
Ensure that your old phone has Google Drive installed. Anyone with an Android phone will automatically have access to Google Drive and a Google account, but you must download the app to your phone in order to complete this procedure. Visit How to Get Google Drive for Android to find out how to download Google Drive.
Launch WhatsApp (still on your old phone). The WhatsApp icon has a white phone and discussion bubble on a green backdrop.
Tap ⋮. The upper right corner of your screen will display a three-dot menu symbol.
Select Settings. Usually, it’s the last choice on the menu.
Click Chats. Your name will be at the top of your “Settings,” with a list of options below. The chat symbol will be the second item on the list, immediately to its right.
Tap Backup for Chat. The “Chat settings” part of this page will be present. The chat backup link will be down here, near the bottom.
Then press Back Up. Your mails are stored on Google Drive as a result. If you have a large number of mails, this process may take several minutes.
Click the Back up to Google Drive option to have WhatsApp automatically create backups of your messages. You can then choose how frequently you want automatic backups to take place.
On your new phone, download and launch WhatsApp. You can do this as soon as the backup is made if you have access to your new phone.
Please check your phone number. You must validate your phone number in order to use WhatsApp. You will only need to provide your phone number for WhatsApp to send a text message to the installed messaging app on your device. Please validate your phone number with that message.
Click Restore. WhatsApp will notify you with a message saying “Backup discovered” if your phone number is validated. To recover all of your previous communications, tap the Restore button.
Select Next to proceed (if prompted). Then, you’ll have access to all of your recent and ongoing WhatsApp discussions.
Method 2 of 2: transfer WhatsApp to a new phone with the same number on iPhone
On your old iPhone, go to Settings. A few gears on a light grey background make up the app icon.
Just at the top of the page, tap your name. At the top of the main Settings page will be your name.
Click iCloud. Your name will appear at the top of the page once more. Near the bottom of the screen, near to the blue cloud icon, is where you’ll find iCloud.
Click iCloud Drive. To see iCloud Drive, scroll down until you see it. Tap on this option to toggle it on right away if it isn’t already (the switch is green when the feature is enabled).
Toggle “WhatsApp” on by tapping the switch next to it (see Iphoneswitchonicon1.png). A list of all your apps that back up their data to iCloud will appear below iCloud Drive. When you reach WhatsApp, scroll down and click the toggle to enable it. Leave WhatsApp alone if it is already turned on.
Launch WhatsApp Find WhatsApp on your home screen by going back there. The icon will be green and feature a phone and a message bubble.
Once you locate it, simply click on it to launch it.
On the Settings tab, click. There is a Settings tab with a gear icon above it in the bottom right corner of the program. To continue, tap this.
Click on Chats. Your name will be shown at the top of the “Settings” page. You can find Chats next to a green icon with a phone and message bubble around it halfway down the page.
Click Chat Backup, then click Backup Now. You are now on a page that lists the history of your backed WhatsApp chats. The words Back Up Now are written in blue letters around halfway down the page.
By tapping on this, WhatsApp will start storing a backup of your communications in your iCloud.
Utilize the new iPhone to log in with your Apple ID. After the backup is finished, you should switch to the new device.
Ensure that your previous iPhone is signed into the same Apple ID on the new one.
On your new iPhone, skip this step if you are already logged in.
On your new iPhone, install and launch WhatsApp. Download WhatsApp by searching for it on the App Store.
Your mobile number should be verified. You must validate your phone number in order to use WhatsApp. You will only need to provide your phone number for WhatsApp to send a text message to the built-in messaging app on your iPhone. Please validate your phone number with that message.
Click Restore. WhatsApp will notify you with a message saying “Backup discovered” if your phone number is validated. To view all of your past messages, select Restore. The size of the backup will determine how long this takes.
